Image
Having feelings of nervousness is quite common before a job interview therefore it is very important that individuals prepare themselves in order to feel much more confident. Like stated in most of the previous chapters in What Color Is Your Parachute you must have a good understanding of yourself. Recruiters only have a general understanding of individuals from what is given to them via a resume therefore it is important to be able to sell yourself and express yourself with confidence. Now it is not uncommon for people to not fully understand themselves and it can jeopardize your job interview. Therefore if individuals prepare themselves for a job interview they will experience the following benefits; a confidence boost, good impression, and express their skills/achievements better.     In order to feel prepared for an interview individuals should do the following suggestions: 1. Research the company: By getting an understanding of a companies history, principle's, and back

Week 15 - MKTG 3347- Mindset Matters

Image
Having a good mindset is vital when searching for a job and or succeeding in a job as there are many outcomes that can happen individuals must be prepared to face situations to their best. If individuals go into job searching with the correct mindset it will build their self confidence in order to pursue jobs they believe they are qualified for. Also, some individuals may be strong candidates but if they lack self confidence they can jeopardize their opportunities. It can be difficult for those who are having a long journey searching for a job and are being rejected. It can be disappointing but if individuals have the right mindset they make look at this at a step towards a different direction. Instead of focusing on rejection individuals should look at it as an opportunity to find something better suitable. Another mindset individuals should have would be promoting themselves instead on focusing on our perceived weaknesses. Although it is easy to focus on your weaknesses you mu

Week 14 - MKTG 3347 - The Petals

Image
As we go further into the flower exercise; we start to understand that each petal signifies the important things individuals want according to their personal and work lives. The seven petals represent the seven ways individuals view themselves. They represent how individuals would like their workplace to be, what kind of people they want to work with, their favorite skills, the knowledge they have, preferred surroundings, preferred salary, and their purpose. Once individuals have finished this exercise they will gain a better understanding of themselves as well as discover patterns and priorities. What Color Is Your Parachute? states "that individuals should know what they are willing to trade off and what they are not". This is very important as often individuals go into jobs blinded by the idea that they must give up certain things to live comfortably. My parents have always had the mentality of sticking to a job that paid well although it made them unhappy. I believ

Week 13. MKTG 3347 - The Flower Exercise

The flower exercise is a valuable resource for individuals who want to gain a better understanding of themselves. During job interviews, recruiters often ask applicants to describe themselves. Though some may find it easy to do, it can be challenging if one does not fully understand themselves. This exercise can help individuals become more self-aware and identify the jobs that are best suited for them. It can also promote mindfulness and provide new opportunities for individuals to apply their knowledge and express themselves better through a resume. Richard Bolles reminds us to take advantage of the time we have when we are out of a job to learn more about ourselves instead of feeling pressured to find a job quickly.         I have been struggling to apply for jobs that align with my niche as I feel insecure about not being good enough. It is challenging for me to describe a

Ch. 4     Many individuals are feeling stuck and do not enjoy their current jobs; some may believe that they do not have any options or fear of doing a career change. According to an article by the Pew Research Center, it states that 1 in 5 workers will be looking for new jobs, and 60% of those that did switch found an increase in their pay  (Kochhar). It is known that wages are one of the main reasons why individuals leave jobs and another reason would be that they are unhappy. By increasing wages, employers will be able to provide more stability for employees; this will make the individuals more happy if they are being paid fairly. While this can be great for some individuals others may find themselves still in a cycle of unhappiness. Staying in a job that causes these emotions can create negative habits and lead to depression and or anxiety.      Richard Bolles gives a great numbe

Week 11 - MKTG 3347 - Dealing With Challenges

Image
Chapter 3    Majority of individuals are afraid to apply for job opportunities because of their insecurities.  However, we all have unique qualities that make us who we are, whether it's a disability, different relationship preferences, or educational differences. In 2020, I had the opportunity to interview for intern programs with Mac Duggal and marketing firms in New York City, but I missed out because I was too shy and felt that I was not intelligent enough. I regret not taking those opportunities, but I have been working on not letting my insecurities hold me back.      O ur differences are what makes us valuable, and employers are actively searching for diverse people because having different backgrounds makes a workplace much more successful. Employers are not allowed to discriminate based on race, gender, religion, age, disability, and other factors. Many individuals are protected under the law and those who have faced bias should seek legal help, find resources/communitie

Image
Chapter 2.      Job hunting can be a challenging experience that can leave you feeling confused, frustrated, and insecure. These emotions are often triggered by unemployment, which can lead to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Richard Bolles suggests that we avoid becoming overwhelmed by our thoughts as overthinking can create a negative foundation for ourselves and intensify negative feelings. Instead, practicing positive thinking can influence your mindset and make it easier to tackle negative thoughts. This approach will help you build resilience, which will prepare you for hardships in life. Changing your mindset is not an easy task, but following these 10 approaches can help: " 1. Take care of your body and mind by getting good sleep. 2. Prioritize your health and practice exercise.  3. Be nice to yourself.  4. Believe that your behavior matters. 5.
