Week 10: MKTG 3347 - Job Hunting

Chapter 2.

Job hunting can be a challenging experience that can leave you feeling confused, frustrated, and insecure. These emotions are often triggered by unemployment, which can lead to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Richard Bolles suggests that we avoid becoming overwhelmed by our thoughts as overthinking can create a negative foundation for ourselves and intensify negative feelings. Instead, practicing positive thinking can influence your mindset and make it easier to tackle negative thoughts. This approach will help you build resilience, which will prepare you for hardships in life. Changing your mindset is not an easy task, but following these 10 approaches can help:

"1. Take care of your body and mind by getting good sleep.
2. Prioritize your health and practice exercise.
3. Be nice to yourself.
4. Believe that your behavior matters.
5. Gain a new perspective by reframing your situation.
6. Let your mind wander and envision a new future.
7. Harness the power of goal setting.
8. Avoid procrastination.
9. Expand your mental horizons and learn something new.
10. Find positive ways to channel your frustrations or anger." (Richard Bolles, 2022)

Managing emotions can be overwhelming, but it's okay to ask for help. Licensed psychologists, career coaches, and supportive individuals can guide you in the right direction. By seeking help when needed, you can take steps towards a healthier lifestyle and can make job hunting less daunting.
